Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce History

Since its inception, the GMCC has actively served as the voice of Miami business in the growing global marketplace. Through advocacy, business development, leadership and member opportunities, the GMCC has helped to grow area businesses and build strong community foundations to support them. Founded in 1907, shortly after the city of Miami’s incorporation, the Miami Board of Trade, precursor to the GMCC, established South Florida as an international business hub. By obtaining deep-water access to Miami’s natural harbor, the Board enabled the creation and success of the Port of Miami, which became the gateway for international shipping and cruising to the Caribbean and Latin America. For 100 years, the GMCC has facilitated economic progress in the South Florida region by offering services and promotion to members, supporting sustainable development initiatives, reinforcing ethics in business, creating jobs to foster economic growth and working on behalf of the people of Miami.
